The 2015 Corvette Z06 is the fastest Corvette ever
— October 1, 2014
GM has unveiled its official figures for the 2015 Corvette Z06. Oh myyyy.
If you read that in George Takei’s voice, you read it correctly.
Here’s what you need to know: off the showroom floor if you spring for a 2015 Corvette Z06 with the Z07 package, you’re getting a monster. What kind of monster? The kind of monster that can sprint from 0-60 in under 3 seconds and finish the quarter mile in less than 11 seconds. Just wrap your head around that.
With the optional all-new 8-speed (yes, EIGHT SPEED) automatic transmission, the 2015 Corvette goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.95 seconds. With the standard 7-speed manual, you lose a bit and end up at 3.2 seconds from 0-60, but that’s still faster than the former “King of the Hill,” the C6 Corvette ZR1.
For the drag racing types among us, the 2015 Corvette Z06 finishes the quarter mile in 10.95 seconds (11.2 seconds with the manual) with a trap speed of a staggering 127 miles per hour. You want fast? You’ve got it. How fast? The fastest GM has ever produced.
The 2015 Corvette Z06 bested the record around GM’s private 2.9-mile Milford Proving Ground test track, beating the Corvette ZR1’s time by a full second. Since going fast has to be balanced with stopping fast, the Z06 also goes from 60 mph to a complete stop in just 99.6 feet – the best a GM car has ever done.
It handles, too. The 2015 Corvette Z06 pulled an incredible 1.2g on the skidpad, besting the previous record from the C6 ZR1 which was an already-impressive 1.13g. Is there anything this car can’t do? With an SAE-certified 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft. of torque on tap from the supercharged LT4 engine, we’re thinking the 2015 Corvette Z06 just might be the best car under $100,000 on sale today.
It’s not just America’s sports car. It’s America’s supercar.
It’s also America’s sexiest super convertible. That’s how I’d take mine.
